Mission Statement

The Alumni Mentoring Program aims to form connections between current students involved in PBHA and the organization’s alumni. By facilitating unique and customized mentoring relationships, the program strives to help alumni stay involved and active in the organization, while providing students with a valuable resource. In this way, we seek to attain and maintain multigenerational perspectives on social justice.

Time Line

1. Alumni submit applications to participate in the program as mentors.
1. The profiles of the alumni will be posted on our website. Click here to view the profiles!
2. Students will be able to apply to be the mentee of three mentors (whom they will rank). Click here to download the mentee application! Complete the application and turn it in ASAP, by e-mailing Natalia Renta, Alumni Relations Coordinator, at nrenta@fas.harvard.edu.
3. The mentoring pairs will be notified of their pairing by mid-October.
4. An orientation meeting will take place the hour before the Saturday dinner of the annual alumni weekend (October 24, 2009). At this time, an introduction of the program will be made and mentoring pairs will discuss expectations and ideas about how to maximize their mentoring experience. The minimum requirement is that the pair meet every month.
5. Every six weeks, the Alumni Relations Coordinator and the Management Fellow will send out a list of PBHA activities and other public service/social justice activities happening on campus that the mentoring pairs may be interested in attending.
6. Near the end of the spring semester (April/May 2010), the Reflection Corps will lead a reflection to which mentoring pairs are strongly encouraged to come.
7. Near the end of the semester, the PBHA-A board as well as the Alumni Relations Coordinator will call the alumni to ask about their overall experience, the activities they have engaged in so far with their mentee, and if there is anything we can do to enhance the relationship.
8. Mentors are expected to come to the Public Service Celebration in May with their mentees, where they will be recognized.
9. A formal written evaluation for the mentors and mentees will be sent to the participants in May.

Long-Term Goals/ Possible Outcomes

Overall: Multigenerational perspectives on social justice.

Alumni
- Positive way of staying connected and being reminded about what PBHA means.
