PBHA Alumni Weekend 2018

October 26-27

Friday, October 26

6:30pm at The Memorial Church of Harvard University

We are thrilled to announce the honoree for the 12th Annual Robert Coles “Call of Service” Lecture & Award: Carmen Yulín Cruz! Join us on Friday October 26 to honor her as our 12th awardee and lecturer.

In 2007, PBHA established a lecture and award that brings a significant figure in public service to campus each year to engender a commitment to service and draw attention to important social issues.  Previous recipients and speakers include Marian Wright Edelman (2007), Al Gore (2008), Geoffrey Canada (2009), Arne Duncan (2010), Dorothy Stoneman (2011), Ernesto Cortes (2012), Shaun Donovan (2013), Bob Moses (2014), Alicia Garza (2015), Monica Roberts (2016), and Nihad Awad (2017).  Former PBHA volunteer, Board Member, child psychologist, civil rights worker, longtime Harvard Professor, and Pulitzer Prize Winning author Dr. Robert Coles and his book The Call of Service, which examines the idealistic spirit PBHA seeks to foster in our students, serve as a fitting title for this annual lecture and award.

Saturday, October 27

  • PBHA-A Annual Meeting: 10am-12pm

  • Alumni Luncheon Celebration: 12:30-2:30pm

  • Afternoon/Evening Programming in celebration of the 35th anniversary of PBHA’s Harvard Square Homeless Shelter and Keylatch Programs: 3:30-8pm

Nominate Outstanding Alumni!

Each year, PBHA-A honors an alum who has shown significant impact in the field of public service or has demonstrated a long-term dedication to a community or neighborhood. This person has further advanced the cause of social justice and carries on the PBHA core values (love and compassion, stewardship, diversity, growth of people and learning, social justice, community building) long after their undergraduate years.

Nominations close on Monday 9/17.

Vote for New Members of the PBHA-A Board!

PBHA-A Board members help create and implement the vision for the public service alumni community of Harvard University. Our priorities as a board include building connections across generations of alumni, strengthening relationships between alumni and students, and supporting the work of PBHA and its programs. Each member is expected to be involved in the work of the board and attend monthly online meetings. There is also an in-person retreat in January and attendance at the annual Alumni Weekend and Robert Coles “Call of Service” Lecture & Award is highly encouraged!

Elections will run from September 17 through September 24, 2018All alumni of PBHA programs (that means you!) will have the opportunity to vote, but we need you to nominate people you think would be great for these roles (you can even nominate yourself).
