PBHA’s Harvard Emerging Literacy Project (HELP) recognizes that if young children do not have the resources to practice reading, their chances for future learning and academic success are significantly diminished. The Harvard Emerging Literacy Project partners with Cambridge’s Head Start preschools to increase access to books and reading among young children from low-income families. Volunteers visit classrooms weekly to read with preschool children, providing literacy support for classroom teachers and preparing students to enter elementary school on par with their peers.
