The following PBHA programs have an urgent need for volunteers. Constituents and community members count on us to make these programs run. They are listed by program day and time If you need more info, please contact the directors of each program to get more specific information. Unless otherwise listed, programs run at the given time each week during the academic year, most beginning immediately.
Monday
2:00-5:30pm: South Boston After School. We do two-on-one tutoring and enriching arts-based/literacy workshops for 1st and 2nd graders. Contact Isabel and Edwin at southieafterschool@gmail.com, iekaplan@fas. harvard.edu, and ehargate@fas.harvard.edu.
2:30-6:30pm: Marshall After School Enrichment Program. The Marshall After School Enrichment Program is a new after school program providing academic and social support at one of the lowest achieving elementary schools in Boston (as identified by Mayor Menino). Contact Sarah, Dan, or Lizzy at smaxwell@fas.harvard.edu, dalfino@fas.harvard.edu, and elrod@fas.harvard.edu.
2:45-6:00pm: Cambridge After-School Program. During the first hour of program each volunteer works with two students to help them with their homework, during the second hour volunteers work as a team to facilitate enrichment workshops for a classroom of similarly-aged students. 3:00-5:00pm: Harvard CHANCE. Tutors will work with Cambridge high school students one-on-one or in small groups and provide SAT tutoring, homework help, or college advising. Contact chance@hcs.harvard.edu.
3:00-6:00pm: BRYE Tutoring. Tutors work 1-on-1 with immigrant children (from Vietnam, Dominican Republic, West Africa, etc) in Dorchester who need help learning English as a second language. Contact Andrew or Diana at andrewle@fas.harvard.edu and diana.bartenstein@gmail.com.
3:00-6:30pm: Chinatown Afterschool. Homework help and creative programming for elementary school kids in the Chinatown community. Contact chtnasp@hcs.harvard.edu.
Varying Times (2 hour commitment between 7am and 5pm): Peer Health Exchange. Positions available, applications due September 25th. Teach health workshops in public high schools to teens who urgently need them. Contact Madeleine and Moises at mballard@fas.harvard.edu and gallegos@fas.harvard.edu.

3:30-7:00pm: Franklin Teen Mentoring. Volunteers maintain an ongoing, 1-on-1 relationship with their mentees, meeting with them once a week and occasionally for group trips. Van drivers are especially needed (if you’ve had your drivers license for 2 years, you are eligible). Saturday
10:30am-1:00pm: Harvard Youth Leadership Initiative. Volunteers teach middle school students essential leadership skills using hands-on, experiential learning techniques. Contact Tom and Elizabeth at tomwang@fas.harvard.edu and emfryman@fas.harvard.edu.
2:00-3:30pm: Vernon Hall Volunteer Program. We work weekly at a nursing home a few blocks from Harvard Square playing bingo with the residents, leading art classes, and entering into meaningful one-on-one relationships. The seniors are often lonely and have no one who visits them, so we fill that void in their life to brighten up their week. Sunday
1:45-4:00pm: Pets as Therapy. Volunteers take local dogs from the Harvard Square area to visit elderly residents at Vernon Hall nursing home, providing the residents with companionship and therapeutic time with the dogs.
