Story #59: Greg Johnson, a Force in PBHA’s Foundational Programs
This year, PBHA will honor Gregory A. "Greg" Johnson as its Outstanding Alumni on November 9th. Greg is the founder and executive director of the nonprofit Sports Philanthropy Project, which studies the impact of charity among professional sports teams and players.
Before that, Greg was the Graduate Secretary of the Phillips Brooks House Association (PBHA) for more than 17 years. During his tenure, PBHA launched two of its largest and most successful programs, the Summer Urban Program (SUP) and the Harvard Square Homeless Shelter (HSHS), known at the time as UniLu. Greg also helped establish PBHA's Stride Rite, which opened access for low-income students, often students of color and first generation students, to serve and grow as leaders in service. Stride Rite continues today as the Priscilla Chan Stride Service Program. Greg graduated cum laude from Harvard College in 1972 with a degree in history and literature.
Come celebrate Greg’s outstanding legacy during this year’s Alumni Weekend, which follows the Robert Coles “Call of Service” Lecture and Award.
