Announcing PBHA's 2015 Outstanding Alumnus and Outstanding Supporter!

PBHA is proud to announce that this October 31st, we will honor two incredible PBHA alumni during Alumni Weekend: Steven W. Hawkins, Executive Director of Amnesty International, will receive our award for 2015 Outstanding Alumni, and David Orr, who has led a pilot effort to encourage recent graduates to give back to PBHA and public service, will be named our 2015 Outstanding Supporter. Before joining Amnesty International USA as its Executive Director, Steven W. Hawkins was the Executive Vice President and Chief Program Officer of the NAACP. He is a nationally renowned attorney and grassroots advocacy leader at the forefront of social justice issues, including death penalty abolition, criminal justice reform and defending civil liberties. As an attorney, he brought litigation that led to the release of three teenagers wrongfully convicted and sentenced to death row in Tennessee. He was also a law professor in South Africa during apartheid, teaching black lawyers who faced discriminatory treatment in the courts. Steven obtained his undergraduate degree from Harvard College and his law degree from New York University.David Orr is a hospice chaplain in New York. He is a former PBHA volunteer with the Harvard Square Homeless Shelter (UniLu) and Prisoner Education programs. He graduated from Harvard University in 2001 with a concentration in Social Studies. A long time supporter, David has been instrumental in the student leaders' recent efforts to encourage their graduating class mates to understand the importance of and commit to giving back to PBHA through the successful Senior Gives pilot. He has worked closely with student and alumni leaders to think through their strategies and issued a meaningful 5 year match to the the classes of 2014 and 2015 as an incentive for reaching participation and on-going fundraising goals. To join us at this year's Alumni Luncheon as we honor these accomplished alumni, please RSVP today.
