Harvard Habitat for Humanity is an entirely student-run organization that works with Habitat for Humanity Greater Boston to provide safe, healthy, and affordable housing to community members struggling to make ends meet. This fall, we will be scheduling and preparing week-long trips and local builds for when we do eventually return to campus.

PBHA's Harvard Habitat for Humanity operates as a campus chapter of

Habitat for Humanity International

,  connecting student volunteers with build sites in Greater Boston, and running domestic and international trips during Harvard's winter and spring breaks. Through the work of Habitat, thousands of low-income families have found new hope in the form of affordable housing. College campuses like Harvard, community groups and others have joined together to successfully tackle a significant social problem―decent housing for all.

Why Habitat?

The world is experiencing a housing crisis. According to Habitat for Humanity International, nearly 2 billion people worldwide live in inadequate housing, with another 100 million experiencing homelessness. More than just a roof over someone’s head, decent housing provides stability, physical safety, and increased access to good health, education, and a stable job.  Habitat for Humanity works to make sure everyone has a decent, safe, affordable place to live.

Volunteering

With PBHA's Harvard Habitat for Humanity, student volunteers collaborate with local Habitat chapters to participate in weekend builds throughout the Greater Boston area. During Harvard's winter and spring breaks, students travel for week-long builds at sites across the United States and Latin America, supporting community development and fair housing in towns from Durham, North Carolina to Biolley, Costa Rica.

Stuff Sale

Each spring, Harvard Habitat for Humanity partners with Harvard's Office for Sustainability to collect unwanted furniture, books, and other supplies as students move out of campus housing. Harvard Habitat for Humanity resells these items in the fall at the annual Stuff Sale, reducing campus waste and funding Habitat builds throughout the year.
