RECAP: Midsummer Celebration 2018

On Wednesday, July 25, 2018, more than 1000 campers, family members, friends, alumni, and community leaders gathered with PBHA staff and students for the 19th annual Midsummer Celebration. The event, which for the first time in its history was held indoors due to rain, celebrated more than 800 campers and 200 student staff members that make up the Summer Urban Program (SUP). Despite thunderstorms in the forecast, Midsummer carried on under the dome of the Melnea A. Cass Recreational Complex in Roxbury. Attendants enjoyed carnival games, inflatables, food, and performances coordinated by the 90 junior counselors who participate in the Leaders! Program and co-teach SUP classrooms during the summer. Additionally, PBHA honored 10 SUP "Community Builders", who foster community in support of SUP camps across Boston and Cambridge: Carolyn Chou (BRYE), Sue Ponte (CHAD), Kristen Fernandes (CYEP), Troy Smith (FIO), Margaret Gardner (KSP), Leslie Giddings (MHSP), Alicia Mucha (NAYEP), Liz Miranda (RYI), Connie Kiriazis (RYSE) & James Lambert (SBOS).Thanks to all of these loyal community builders, to the Department of Conservation & Recreation staff at Melnea Cass Recreational Complex, and to everyone who came to celebrate our youth at the Midsummer Celebration!
